Open the calculatorLouisiana Rock Supply brings gravel and aggregate delivery in Grosse Tete, LA and the rest of Iberville Parish. You can order 610 limestone, washed stone, sand, topsoil and fill online by the ton or the yard.
This is ground laid down by the rivers, heavy clay and silt that holds water and needs a pad built up before anything sits level.
Much of the work in Grosse Tete starts with grading and bed prep, so soil and fill come first. Topsoil is the growing layer for lawns, beds and grade repair over ground that is more often heavy clay than anything a lawn wants.
Garden soil is a blended planting mix for raised beds and vegetable gardens, and raised beds matter here because the natural ground sits wet.
Select Fill is the structural fill that raises low ground and builds a pad up out of the water. It compacts rather than settling, so it belongs under a base course and not under a lawn.
Louisiana yards also list river silt and spillway dirt beside it as grade raising materials for the same job.
Once the grade is set, a compacted base carries the load. 610 limestone is the local base size, with stone dust up to about two inches so the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled.
It goes under driveways, parking pads, shed and building pads, and the compacted layer under flatwork. Crushed concrete is recycled Portland cement concrete, crushed and screened with the fines left in, and Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
Clean stone has no fines, so it drains instead of binding. #57 Limestone is about 3/4 inch and works for a driveway surface, drainage and concrete work.
#67 Stone is a little finer, for drainage trenches, pipe bedding and concrete. Drain Rock is clean washed stone for French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs.
Sand and bedding finishes the detail work. Mason Sand is the finest washed sand, for mortar, brick and block work and a smooth paver setting bed.
Washed Sand, which Louisiana yards also call river sand, beds pipe and flatwork and backfills where a clean fine material is wanted. Stone Screenings are the crusher fines that pass the finest screen, a bedding and joint material under pavers and a packing top for a path.
Across the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains, the water table sits high and the clay will not take water. The land is flat, so rain has nowhere to run and the backswamp between the old channels holds it.
You deal with that by grading first. Select Fill lifts a pad out of the wet zone, then a compacted base goes on top of it.
Because the ground holds water, the drainage layer is the part that has to work. Clean open graded stone like #57 or #67 lets water move instead of trapping it against a slab or a foundation.
On ground this wet, a fines-bearing material will not do that job.
River and bayou bank cutting, sheet flow across bare clay after a hard rain, and ditch and canal scour are the erosion problems here. Riprap is angular stone for bank and shoreline armour, canal and bayou edges, and slope protection.
Rounded stone does not lock together, so river rock and large river rock are decorative, not bank armour.
Work runs year round. Heavy rain and saturated clay, not cold, are what stop a compaction pass, so schedule grading around the wet spells.
Bulk material arrives on a dump truck that tips the load in one pile on site. Have the drop area clear and reachable, with room for the truck to pull in and out.
Once it is tipped, the pile stays where it lands.
