Open the calculatorFor gravel and aggregate delivery in Haynesville, LA, Louisiana Rock Supply sells bulk material by the ton or the yard. Work runs year round here, and 610 limestone is the base a Louisiana yard names for drives, pads and the layer under flatwork.
Haynesville sits in Claiborne Parish, on the rolling uplands of the northern and western part of the state. The ground is sandy loam over clay, so water moves sideways down the slopes instead of soaking in.
Across the northern and western uplands, the sandy loam surface takes water and the clay beneath it does not. Water slides down the slopes and gathers in the draws, which is why slope, not a water table, is what moves water here.
A thin base course fails first at the edges, where the sandy surface washes out from under it. The fix is a fines-bearing base that binds and hardens when it is rolled, not a clean stone that lets water run straight through.
Bare sandy slopes gully quickly once the cover is gone, and the draws scour at the ditches and streams. Riprap at /products/riprap/ is angular stone for that kind of bank and slope work.
Rounded stone does not lock together, so it is not bank armour.
Wet clay in the draws is what stops a compaction pass. Work runs year round otherwise, so timing a delivery around a wet spell is worth doing before you build a pad.
Fines and screenings do the fine work on paths and walkways here. Stone screenings are the crusher fines that pass the finest screen, a bedding and joint material under pavers and a packing top for a path.
Walkway gravel is a finer gravel that packs underfoot, for garden paths and walkways. Both give you a surface that holds together without the loose, shifting feel of a clean stone.
610 limestone, also called #610, 610 base or CR610, is the local base material. It runs from stone dust up to about two inches, so the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled.
It goes under driveways, parking pads, shed and building pads, and flatwork.
Crushed concrete, also called recycled base or 610 concrete, is recycled Portland cement concrete crushed and screened with the fines left in. Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
It is not crushed limestone.
#57 limestone is the clean open graded size, about 3/4 inch with no fines. It is a driveway surface stone and a usual choice for drainage and concrete work.
#67 stone is a little finer, for drainage trenches, pipe bedding and concrete.
Drain rock is clean washed stone with the fines taken out, for French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs. On ground this close to the surface water, the drainage layer is the part that has to work.
For bedding and setting, mason sand is the finest washed sand, for mortar, brick and block work and a smooth paver setting bed. Washed sand, also called river sand, beds pipe and flatwork and backfills where a clean fine material is wanted.
Where the ground needs raising, select fill compacts rather than settling, so it goes under a base course and not under a lawn. Top soil is the growing layer for lawns, beds and grade repair.

Have the drop spot clear, level enough for a truck to reach, and free of overhead lines, low branches and parked vehicles. The load is tipped in one pile, so leave room for it and keep gates wide enough for the truck to pass.
If the ground is soft from rain, pick a firmer spot nearby.
610 limestone is the local base for the compacted layer under pavers, because the stone dust up to about two inches binds it and it hardens as it is rolled.
Bed the pavers themselves on stone screenings or mason sand, and set the base over ground that has been raised with select fill where it sits low.
