Open the calculatorLouisiana Rock Supply handles gravel and aggregate delivery in Hessmer, LA, and the ground here sets the order. On the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains, the clay holds rain until it is ditched or pumped away, so drainage stone does real work.
Start with the calculator on the product page, then pick your material.
Washed stone is where most drainage jobs start. Drain Rock is clean washed stone with the fines taken out, so water moves through it instead of sitting in it.
It goes in French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs.
#4 Crushed Stone is the coarse clean option, roughly 1 1/2 inch. Use it for heavy drainage, erosion work and stabilising very wet ground.
#4 Crushed Stone takes a lot of water fast.
#57 Limestone is the clean open graded size, about 3/4 inch with no fines. It suits drainage and concrete work, and it surfaces a drive.
#57 Limestone is a Louisiana yard standard.
#67 Stone runs a little finer than #57. Reach for #67 Stone in drainage trenches, pipe bedding and concrete.
#8 Crushed Stone, roughly 3/8 inch, handles fine drainage and paver bedding.
Where water has to move but nothing has to compact, #8 Crushed Stone and #89 Crushed Stone cover the fine end. #89 is a paver joint and thin bedding material.
610 limestone is the local base, also called #610 or 610 base. It is stone dust up to about two inches, so the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled.
Driveways, parking pads, shed pads and the layer under flatwork all take 610 Limestone.
Crushed concrete is a different product, recycled Portland cement concrete crushed and screened with the fines left in. Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
Crushed Concrete is not crushed limestone and the two are not interchangeable.

Work runs year round here. Heavy rain and saturated clay, not cold, are what stop a compaction pass, so timing a delivery around a wet spell matters more than the calendar.
Louisiana design criteria are about wind and water, not frost.
Across the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains, the soil is recent alluvium: silty clay and clay loam, heavy and deep. Sandier natural levee ridges are the ground that drains by itself, and the low ground between them holds water.
That is why the drainage layer is the part that has to work. A high water table and clay that will not take water leave the clean washed stone doing the moving.
Erosion shows up as bank cutting, sheet flow across bare clay after a hard rain, and ditch scour.
Fill and soil follow the same logic. Select Fill raises low ground and builds a pad out of the water, and it compacts rather than settling.
Top Soil is the growing layer over ground that is more often heavy clay than anything a lawn wants.

What buyers ask us before they order.
Yes. Louisiana Rock Supply delivers bulk 610 limestone to Hessmer and the surrounding Avoyelles Parish area. You order online, choose your quantity by the ton or by the yard, and pick a delivery date at checkout. The 610 limestone is the local base material for driveways, parking pads and the layer under flatwork.
It depends on the drive. A new drive over heavy clay usually starts with 610 limestone as the base, because the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled. An existing drive that just needs a surface takes #57 Limestone or Driveway Gravel. Where water stands, add a clean washed layer underneath.
Wherever you tell us, as long as the truck can safely reach it. Mark the spot before the delivery and someone should be on site to point the driver to it. If nobody can be there, leave clear instructions when you order and we will follow them.
