Open the calculatorFor gravel and aggregate delivery in Effie, LA, Louisiana Rock Supply sells bulk material by the ton and the yard. Start with 610 limestone if you are building a pad or a drive.
On the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains the ground is heavy clay, and water sits on it.
Water is the first problem on this ground. Clay will not take it, so the drainage layer has to carry it away instead.
Washed stone with the fines taken out does that work.
Drain Rock is the clean washed stone for French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs. It is angular and open, so water moves through it.
#4 Crushed Stone is the coarse clean size at roughly 1 1/2 inch. Use it for heavy drainage and for stabilising very wet ground.
#67 Stone is a clean stone a little finer than #57. It suits drainage trenches, pipe bedding and concrete.
Then the base and surface sizes. 610 Limestone is the Louisiana base: stone dust up to about two inches, with the fines left in so it binds and hardens as it is rolled.
It goes under drives, parking pads, shed pads and flatwork.
Crushed Concrete is a base layer of recycled Portland cement concrete, crushed and screened to a dense graded size with the fines left in. Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
For a drive surface, #57 Limestone is the clean open graded size at about 3/4 inch with no fines.
Mason Sand is the finest washed sand, for mortar, brick and block work and for a smooth paver setting bed.
Top Soil is the growing layer for lawns, beds and grade repair. The natural ground here is more often heavy clay than anything a lawn wants.
Select Fill raises low ground and builds a pad up out of the water. It compacts rather than settling, so it belongs under a base course.

Work runs year round here. Heavy rain and saturated clay, not cold, are what stop a compaction pass.
The ground across the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains is recent alluvium: silty clay and clay loam laid down by the rivers, deep and heavy, with sandier natural levee ridges along the old channels and backswamp clay in the low ground between them.
That is why the land is flat and drains poorly. The levee ridges are the ground that drains by itself, and the backswamp between them holds rain until it is ditched away.
Build the drainage layer first, then the base. On a wet site, select fill lifts the pad out of the water before 610 limestone goes down on top.
Erosion follows the same pattern: bank cutting along the bayous, sheet flow across bare clay after a hard rain, and scour in ditches and canals.

Start with 610 limestone as the base. The fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled, which suits the heavy clay ground on the alluvial plains.
Top it with a clean open stone such as #57 Limestone if you want a loose surface. Crushed concrete also works as a base course material here.
