Open the calculatorGravel and aggregate delivery in Melrose, LA starts with water, because the ground here holds it. Louisiana Rock Supply sells bulk 610 limestone, washed stone, sand and soil, delivered by the ton.
Across the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains, the clay takes rain slowly and the water table sits close. A drainage layer of clean washed stone is what keeps a drive and a pad usable.
Start with the washed stone. Drain Rock is clean stone with the fines taken out, so water moves through it instead of sitting in it.
Use it in French drains, drywells and downspout runs. On ground with a water table this close to the surface, that drainage layer is the part that has to work.
Go coarser for volume. #4 Crushed Stone is angular stone at roughly 1 1/2 inch, for heavy drainage, erosion work and wet ground that needs a large open stone.
Then the mid sizes. #57 Limestone is about 3/4 inch with no fines, for a driveway surface, drainage and concrete work.
#67 Stone runs a little finer, for drainage trenches, pipe bedding and concrete.
Come down to the fine end. #8 Crushed Stone is roughly 3/8 inch, for fine drainage and paver bedding.
#89 Crushed Stone is finer still, for paver joints and thin bedding layers.
Where nothing has to drain, use a compacting material. 610 limestone is the Louisiana base: stone dust up to about two inches, so the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled.
It goes under driveways, parking pads, shed and building pads, and flatwork. Crushed Concrete is recycled Portland cement concrete, crushed and screened with the fines left in, and Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
Then the surface and finish materials. Walkway Gravel packs underfoot on garden paths.
Stone Screenings bed pavers and pack the top of a path.
For planting, Top Soil is the growing layer for lawns and beds, over ground that is more often heavy clay than anything a lawn wants. Garden Soil is a blended planting soil, and raised beds matter here because the natural ground sits wet.
Where a pad has to come up out of the water, Select Fill raises low ground and compacts rather than settling. Louisiana yards also list river silt and spillway dirt beside it as grade raising material.

Each product page has a calculator if you are unsure of the quantity. Melrose sits in Natchitoches Parish, and delivery covers the parish, including Natchitoches, Campti, Goldonna, Natchez and Provencal.
Work runs year round here. Heavy rain and saturated clay, not cold, are what stop a compaction pass, so timing a delivery around the weather matters more than the calendar.
The soil is recent alluvium: silty clay and clay loam laid down by the rivers, deep and heavy. Sandier natural levee ridges drain by themselves, and the low ground between them holds rain until it is ditched away.
That decides what goes where. Put the base course on ground that has been built up and compacted, and put the clean washed stone where water has to leave.
Erosion comes from bank cutting on the rivers and bayous, sheet flow across bare clay after a hard rain, and ditch and canal scour. Angular stone holds a bank; rounded stone does not lock together, so it is not bank armour.
RipRap is the angular stone for bank and shoreline armour, canal and bayou edges, and slope protection. Railroad Ballast is the coarse angular option for track beds, heavy equipment pads and very wet ground.

What buyers ask us before they order.
Yes. Louisiana Rock Supply delivers 610 limestone in bulk to Melrose and the rest of Natchitoches Parish, along with Campti, Goldonna, Natchez and Provencal. You order online by the ton or by the yard, size the load with the calculator on the product page, and pick a delivery date at checkout.
It depends on which layer you are building. 610 limestone is the compacted base for a driveway, because the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled. #57 Limestone is the clean open graded surface stone, about 3/4 inch with no fines, and it drains. Use washed stone where water has to move.
You can order by the ton or by the cubic yard, whichever suits how you plan the job. If you tell us the area you are covering and the depth you want, we will work the quantity out with you rather than leaving you to guess.
