Open the calculatorLouisiana Rock Supply handles gravel and aggregate delivery in Church Point, LA for the jobs you are planning now: a driveway rebuild, a patio base, a drainage run, a garden path that stops turning to mud.
If you are pricing a drive, the material to name first is 610 limestone, the local base that binds and hardens as it is rolled. This is coastal prairie ground, level terrace country with a tight claypan under the silt loam.
Across the southwest coastal prairie terraces, the surface is a silt loam sitting on dense clay subsoil. Rain moves through the loam and stops at the claypan, so water perches in the top foot of ground.
On ground this flat, nothing carries that water away, and the surface stays soft long after the rain has passed. That is why a thin base fails here: it never gets a chance to dry from below.
The fix starts with a base course that ties together instead of pumping under a tire. 610 limestone is graded with the fines left in, up to about two inches at the top end, so it packs into a firm layer rather than a loose pile of clean stone.
Where a base is holding water, put a clean open stone under or beside it so the water has somewhere to go. Bare fresh grade also cuts into rills fast under sheet flow, and ditch and coulee edges scour, so cover exposed ground sooner rather than later.
Work runs year round here. Wet spells set the schedule, not cold.
Fines and screenings are the quiet part of a path or walkway build, and they are the part that decides whether the surface stays put. A walkway gravel that packs underfoot is one that carries fines, and screenings are the fine end of that family.
A path edged with stone screenings and topped correctly reads as a solid surface, not a loose scatter of rock.
Start at the base. 610 Limestone, also called #610 or 610 base, is the Louisiana base size for driveways, parking pads, shed and building pads, and the compacted layer under flatwork.
It holds because the fines bind it.
For the surface of a path, Walkway Gravel gives you a finer material that packs underfoot instead of rolling away. Pair it with Stone Screenings, the crusher fines that pass the finest screen, for bedding under pavers and as a packing top on a path.
Where a walkway meets a paver patio, the bedding layer matters as much as the surface. Mason Sand is the finest washed sand, and it sets a smooth bed for pavers, brick and block work.
Washed Sand, which Louisiana yards also call river sand, does the same job under pipe and flatwork and in backfill where a clean fine material is wanted.
If the path is one of several jobs, these cover the rest.
Rounded stone has its place too. Natural Pea Gravel suits paths, dog runs and play areas, while River Rock covers beds and borders where nothing needs to compact.

What buyers ask us before they order.
A clear, reachable spot for the pile and a way in for a dump truck. The load is tipped in one pile, so the ground you choose is where the material stays. Make sure nothing overhead or alongside blocks the truck, and that the surface under the pile can take the weight.
610 limestone is the usual compacted base under flatwork here, because the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled. Over this claypan ground, that firm layer keeps the bed from pumping. Set the pavers on mason sand or washed sand, with stone screenings for joints and thin bedding layers.
Wherever you tell us, as long as the truck can safely reach it. Mark the spot before the delivery and someone should be on site to point the driver to it. If nobody can be there, leave clear instructions when you order and we will follow them.
