Open the calculatorLouisiana Rock Supply brings gravel and aggregate delivery in Creole, LA. Work here runs year round and stops for rain and high water, not for cold.
On ground this soft, grading and bed prep come before anything else. That means topsoil, garden soil and select fill first, then 610 limestone for the drive.
Start with the ground under the project. Select fill raises a low spot and builds a pad up out of the water, and it compacts instead of settling.
It goes under a base course, never under a lawn.
Top soil is the growing layer for lawns and beds. The natural ground here is more often heavy clay than anything a lawn wants, so a fresh layer does the work.
Garden soil is blended for raised beds and vegetables, and raised beds matter where the natural ground sits wet.
For the drive and the pad, 610 limestone is the Louisiana base. Stone dust up to about two inches binds it, and it hardens as it is rolled.
Road Base is the recycled option, a dense graded base with the fines left in. Both take a surface layer of #57 Limestone or Driveway Gravel.
Washed sand and mason sand cover the flatwork and paver side. Mason sand is the finest washed sand, for mortar and block work and a smooth setting bed.
Creole sits in Cameron Parish, on the deltaic plain, the marsh and the Chenier coast. The soil is organic muck and soft clay, under consolidated and highly compressible.
The only firm ground is on the natural levee ridges, the old distributary channels and the cheniers, the shell and sand ridges of the southwest coast.
The water table is at or near the surface and the ground is already saturated. Nothing here drains downward.
Water leaves by pump, canal or not at all, and a pad built on muck settles under its own weight before anything is parked on it.
That is why fill and grading come first on almost any project in this parish. Build the pad up out of the water with select fill, then set the base course on top of it.
Where a foundation, a downspout or a French drain has to move water, the drainage layer is the part that has to work.
Erosion is the other driver. Storm surge, canal and bayou bank retreat and wave action along open water all pull at the edges.
Riprap is angular stone for bank and shoreline armour. Rounded stone does not lock together, so it is not bank armour.

Use a clean stone with the fines taken out, because the ground here is saturated and nothing drains downward. Drain rock is the washed stone for French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs.
#57 Limestone and #67 Stone also work for open drainage, and #4 Crushed Stone suits heavy drainage and very wet ground. In a trench, the clean stone is the part that has to work.

A clear, level spot the truck can reach and tip in, with nothing parked in the way and no low branches or wires over the approach. If the drop is behind a gate, tell us the width when you order. Soft ground after rain is the usual reason a delivery in Creole has to be moved, so point out anywhere the truck should not drive.
