Start with 610 limestone, the base this market calls #610, 610 base or CR610. It is crushed limestone, and the stone dust up to about two inches binds the mix together.
Westlake sits on the southwest coastal prairie terraces, where level ground carries a silt loam surface over a dense clay subsoil. A tight claypan often sits close enough to the surface to stop roots and water alike.
Rain gets through the silt loam, reaches the dense subsoil and stops. Water perches in the top foot, and the ground stays soft long after the rain has gone.
On ground this flat there is no fall to carry that water off. A thin base over soft terrace ground shows the failure first: it pumps, shifts and breaks up under a truck or a trailer.
The fix is a base course that compacts and a clean drainage layer beside it. Sheet flow across bare terrace ground also cuts rills into a fresh grade before anything covers it, and ditch and coulee scour takes the edges.
Work runs year round here, with wet spells rather than cold ones setting the schedule. Louisiana design criteria are about wind and water, so frost never enters the plan.
Bedding under pavers and flatwork is the work that decides how a patio or a slab behaves. Get the bed right and the surface stays flat; get it wrong and the panels rock within a season.
610 Limestone is the compacted layer under flatwork and the base for a driveway, a parking pad or a shed pad. The fines are left in, so the material binds as it is worked.
Crushed Concrete is recycled Portland cement concrete, crushed and screened to a dense graded size with the fines kept. Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
For the setting bed itself, Mason Sand is the finest washed sand and takes a smooth paver bed. Washed Sand, also called river sand, beds pipe and flatwork and backfills where a clean fine material is wanted.
Stone Screenings are the crusher fines that pass the finest screen. They bed pavers, pack into joints and top a path.
Where water has to move, Drain Rock is clean washed stone with the fines taken out. On ground with a water table this close to the surface, the drainage layer is the part that has to work.
#57 Limestone is the clean open graded size, about 3/4 inch with no fines, for drainage and concrete work. #67 Stone runs a little finer for drainage trenches, pipe bedding and concrete.
#8 Crushed Stone is a small clean stone at roughly 3/8 inch for fine drainage and paver bedding. #89 Crushed Stone is finer still, for paver joints and thin bedding layers.
3/8" Crushed Stone is the same fine crushed size sold by inch, for bedding under pavers and topping a walkway. 3/4" Crushed Stone, sold as drainage gravel, surfaces a drive, backfills a trench and handles general drainage.
#4 Crushed Stone is a coarse clean stone at roughly 1 1/2 inch for heavy drainage, erosion work and wet ground. RipRap is the angular stone for bank and shoreline armour, canal and bayou edges and slope protection.
Select Fill raises low ground and builds a pad up out of the water, and it compacts rather than settling. Top Soil is the growing layer for lawns and beds over ground that is more often heavy clay than anything a lawn wants.
Garden Soil is a blended planting soil for raised beds and vegetable gardens, which suit ground that sits wet. Shredded Mulch, the cypress mulch buyers ask for by name, dresses beds, tree rings and slopes.
Natural Pea Gravel is rounded pea sized gravel for paths, dog runs, play areas and pipe bedding. River Rock is rounded decorative stone for beds, borders and ground cover where nothing has to compact.

What buyers ask us before they order.
Start with 610 limestone as the base, since the stone dust up to about two inches binds it and the material hardens as it is worked. Top it with a clean stone such as #57 Limestone for the driving surface. Crushed concrete is the other base option, a recycled Class II base course material.
Quantities are ordered by the ton or by the yard. Each product page carries a calculator, so you can size the load for your own area and depth before you check out. Order the figure it gives you and pick your delivery date.
Wherever you tell us, as long as the truck can safely reach it. Mark the spot before the delivery and someone should be on site to point the driver to it. If nobody can be there, leave clear instructions when you order and we will follow them.
