Open the calculatorLouisiana Rock Supply brings gravel and aggregate delivery in Kaplan, LA, and the ground here decides what works. Water perches in the top foot of the silt loam and sits there, because the dense clay below stops it.
Start with washed stone. Drain rock, French drains, drywells and downspout runs all move water off ground that has no fall to carry it away.
Then build the base with 610 limestone, the local name for the crushed limestone base this market specifies.
Water is the first problem on any job in Vermilion Parish. Clean washed stone is the answer, because the fines are taken out and water runs through it instead of pooling on top.
Drain Rock goes in French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs. On ground with a water table this close to the surface, the drainage layer is the part that has to work.
#4 Crushed Stone is the coarse clean stone, roughly 1 1/2 inch, for heavy drainage and for stabilising very wet ground. #57 Limestone is the clean open graded size, about 3/4 inch with no fines, for a driveway surface and for concrete work.
#67 Stone is a little finer than #57, which suits drainage trenches and pipe bedding. #8 Crushed Stone and #89 Crushed Stone handle fine drainage, paver bedding and paver joints.
Under all of that goes the base. 610 Limestone is the local base material, stone dust up to about two inches, and the fines bind it so it hardens as it is rolled.
Crushed Concrete is recycled Portland cement concrete, crushed and screened with the fines left in, and Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material. It is not crushed quarry stone, and it is not the same material as 610 limestone.
For raising low ground, Select Fill compacts rather than settling, so it belongs under a base course. Top Soil is the growing layer for lawns and beds, and Garden Soil suits raised beds over ground that sits wet.
Sand and decorative stone round out a yard. Mason Sand is the finest washed sand for mortar and block work, and Washed Sand beds pipe and flatwork.

A dump truck tips the load in one pile on site. Kaplan sits in Vermilion Parish, and delivery covers the city and the surrounding area, including Abbeville, Erath, Maurice, Delcambre and Gueydan.
Work runs year round here, with wet spells rather than cold ones setting the schedule. Time a delivery around the wet ground, because a loaded truck on soft terrace ground is a problem you do not want.
Across the southwest coastal prairie terraces, the surface is silt loam over a dense clay subsoil. A tight claypan often sits close enough to the surface to stop roots and water alike.
Rain gets through the silt loam, reaches the dense subsoil and stops. Water perches in the top foot, and on ground this flat there is no fall to carry it off.
That is why the drainage layer matters more than the surface. Bare terrace ground also moves water as sheet flow, and fresh grade cuts rills before anything covers it.
Ditch and coulee scour takes the same ground from the edge. Riprap and large river rock protect banks, but rounded stone does not lock together, so it is not bank armour.

What buyers ask us before they order.
Yes. Louisiana Rock Supply delivers 610 limestone to Kaplan and the surrounding Vermilion Parish area, including Abbeville, Erath, Maurice, Delcambre and Gueydan. You order online by the ton or by the yard, size the load with the calculator on the product page, and pick a delivery date at checkout. A dump truck then tips the load on site.
Start with 610 limestone as the base, because the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled. Top it with #57 limestone, the clean open graded stone, for the driving surface. On ground that stays soft after rain, put a clean drainage layer underneath before the base goes down.
A clear, level spot the truck can reach and tip in, with nothing parked in the way and no low branches or wires over the approach. If the drop is behind a gate, tell us the width when you order. Soft ground after rain is the usual reason a delivery in Kaplan has to be moved, so point out anywhere the truck should not drive.
