Louisiana Rock Supply delivers bulk material to St. Tammany Parish by the ton, and 610 limestone is the base most pads and drives are built on.
Where grade falls toward a ditch or a bank, coarse stone is what holds it. That is where this page starts.
Slope, swale and bank work takes angular stone that locks together. Rounded stone does not, so it is the wrong choice for holding ground in place.
RipRap is the angular stone for bank and shoreline armour, canal and bayou edges, and slope protection. Use it where moving water is cutting at the toe of a slope.
#4 Crushed Stone is roughly 1 1/2 inch and clean, so it handles heavy drainage and stabilises very wet ground.
Railroad Ballast is a coarse angular stone for very wet ground where a large open stone is wanted. It also builds heavy equipment pads that need to stay open to water.
#57 Limestone is the clean open graded size, about 3/4 inch with no fines, and it is the usual choice for drainage and concrete work. #67 Stone is a little finer, for drainage trenches and pipe bedding.
Drain Rock is washed clean with the fines taken out, for French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs. On ground with a water table this close to the surface, the drainage layer is the part that has to work.
610 Limestone is the Louisiana base: stone dust up to about two inches, so the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled. It goes under drives, parking pads, shed and building pads, and flatwork.
Crushed Concrete is recycled Portland cement concrete, crushed and screened with the fines left in, and Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
Select Fill raises low ground and builds a pad up out of the water, and it compacts rather than settling. Louisiana yards also list river silt and spillway dirt beside it as grade raising material.
Top Soil is the growing layer for lawns, beds and grade repair.

The Florida parishes pine flatwoods run on level to gently sloping terrace ground under pine. The surface is a sandy or silt loam over a dense, slowly permeable subsoil.
That subsoil is why the water table rises into the root zone in the wet season and stays. Water gets through the sand and then stops.
Sheet flow on bare flat ground, ditch scour, and rill cutting in the sandy surface all follow. Leave grade exposed and the sand moves.
Work runs year round here. Timing is set by how wet the ground is rather than how cold, so a delivery date matters more than a season.

What buyers ask us before they order.
Use clean stone, not a fines-bearing base. #57 Limestone is the usual choice, with #67 Stone for trenches and pipe bedding. Drain Rock is washed clean for French drains, foundation perimeter drains and drywells. If the ground is very wet, #4 Crushed Stone or Railroad Ballast gives you a larger open stone that water moves through freely.
A clear spot for the pile. The truck tips the load in one place, so the ground you choose should be reachable and firm enough to take the weight. Have your quantity settled before checkout and your delivery date picked. Everything else is handled online when you place the order.
You can order by the ton or by the cubic yard, whichever suits how you plan the job. If you tell us the area you are covering and the depth you want, we will work the quantity out with you rather than leaving you to guess.
