Start with 610 limestone, the local base that hardens as it is rolled. Then add the clean stone, sand or soil your project needs.
The deltaic plain sits on organic muck and soft clay, under consolidated and highly compressible. Firm ground shows up on natural levee ridges and old distributary channels.
A thin base course fails first here. The subgrade gives, the stone punches down, and the surface ruts where tires track.
The water table is at or near the surface and the ground is already saturated. Nothing drains downward; water leaves by pump or canal or not at all.
A pad built on muck settles under its own weight before anything is parked on it. So the base has to spread the load, and the drainage layer has to actually move water.
Canal and bayou banks retreat, and storm surge and wave action work on open water. Work runs year round, interrupted by rain and high water rather than by cold.
Paths and walkways live on the fines. Stone Screenings are the crusher fines that pass the finest screen, and they pack into a firm, smooth surface underfoot.
Walkway Gravel is the finer gravel that does the same job on a garden path.
610 limestone is the Louisiana base material, also called #610, 610 base or CR610. It runs from stone dust up to about two inches, so the fines bind it and it hardens as it is rolled.
Use it for driveways, parking pads and the compacted layer under flatwork.
Crushed concrete, also called recycled base or 610 concrete, is recycled Portland cement concrete crushed and screened with the fines left in. Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
It is not crushed quarry stone.
Clean stone handles water. #57 Limestone is about 3/4 inch with no fines, for a driveway surface, drainage and concrete work.
Drain Rock is washed clean for French drains, foundation perimeter drains and downspout runs.
Under pavers, Mason Sand is the finest washed sand, for a smooth setting bed and for mortar and block work. Washed Sand, also called river sand, beds pipe and flatwork.

What buyers ask us before they order.
A clear, firm place for the pile. A dump truck tips the load in one spot, so the ground under it needs to hold the weight without sinking. Mark nothing for the driver and expect no spreading; the material lands where it lands. Clear the approach so the truck can reach the spot.
610 limestone, the local base material. Its fines bind the stone so it hardens as it is rolled, which is what a setting bed needs. Over the soft clay and muck common here, that compacted layer is what keeps the pavers from shifting. Mason Sand goes on top for the smooth bed.
You can order by the ton or by the cubic yard, whichever suits how you plan the job. If you tell us the area you are covering and the depth you want, we will work the quantity out with you rather than leaving you to guess.
