Open the calculatorIf you are pricing gravel and aggregate delivery in Vacherie, LA, the first question is usually which stone handles the water. Louisiana Rock Supply sells 610 limestone, washed stone, sand, fill and soil in bulk, ordered online by the ton or by the yard.
This is heavy clay ground with a high water table, so the drainage layer carries the job. Washed stone is where that work starts.
Water has nowhere to go on flat ground, so French drains, drywells and downspout runs are what most drainage jobs here are built from. Clean washed stone with the fines taken out is what those systems need.
Drain Rock is that washed stone. It goes in French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs, and it works because nothing in the stone holds water back.
Around the drain, the size you pick depends on how much water moves and how fast. Coarse clean stone lets more through at once and holds up in soft, saturated ground.
#4 Crushed Stone is the coarse clean choice at roughly 1 1/2 inch, for heavy drainage, erosion work and stabilising very wet ground. #57 Limestone is the cleaner open graded size at about 3/4 inch, and it is a standard pick for drainage and concrete work.
Where the run is tighter, #67 Stone is the finer clean stone for drainage trenches, pipe bedding and concrete. #8 Crushed Stone and #89 Crushed Stone take that down to fine drainage, paver bedding and paver joints.
Not every job is a drainage job. For a drive or a building pad, 610 limestone is the local base material, stone dust up to about two inches, and the fines bind it so it hardens as it is rolled.
Crushed Concrete is the other base course, recycled Portland cement concrete crushed and screened with the fines left in, and Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material. It is not crushed limestone and it is not sold as such.
Finishing materials sit on top of all of that. Top Soil is the growing layer for lawns and beds, and Garden Soil is the blended planting soil for raised beds, which suit ground this wet.

A dump truck tips the load in one pile on site. Material comes in bulk, so what arrives is the stone, sand, fill or soil itself, ready for your crew to move.
Vacherie sits in St. James Parish, and delivery covers the parish, including Lutcher, Gramercy, Paulina, St.
James and Convent. If your site is inside that area, bulk delivery is available to it.
Work runs year round here. What stops a compaction pass is heavy rain and saturated clay, not cold, so timing a delivery around the weather matters more than the calendar.
The ground is recent alluvium across the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains: silty clay and clay loam, deep and heavy, with sandier natural levee ridges along the old channels and backswamp clay in the low ground between them.
That clay will not take water, and the water table sits close to the surface. The levee ridges are the only ground that drains by itself, and the backswamp holds rain until it is ditched or pumped away.
The practical consequence is that the drainage layer is the part that has to work. A base course over clay that stays wet will not compact the way it should, so the clean washed stone goes in under and around the work.
Erosion follows the same pattern. River and bayou banks cut, bare clay sheets water after a hard rain, and ditches and canals scour.
RipRap is the angular stone for bank and shoreline armour, canal and bayou edges and slope protection. Rounded stone is not a substitute, because rounded stone does not lock together.
Yes. Louisiana Rock Supply delivers 610 limestone, also called #610, 610 base or CR610, to Vacherie and the rest of St.
James Parish. It is the local base material for driveways, parking pads and the compacted layer under flatwork.
Order it online by the ton or by the yard and pick a delivery date at checkout.
Start with 610 limestone as the base course, because the fines bind and it hardens as it is rolled. Finish with a clean stone such as #57 Limestone for the driving surface.
If the drive sits on low, wet ground, put drainage stone in first so the base is not sitting in water.
