Open the calculatorLouisiana Rock Supply handles gravel and aggregate delivery in Aimwell, LA, and the ground here shapes what you should order. This is recent alluvium: silty clay and clay loam laid down by the rivers, deep, heavy and slow to take water.
That ground decides base depth before anything else does. 610 limestone is the Louisiana base material, stone dust up to about two inches with the fines left in, and it binds and hardens as it is rolled.
Start with the coarse end. This part of the state is flat, and the water has to be moved or held back somewhere.
Angular stone is what does that work on a slope, in a swale or along a bank.
RipRap is the angular stone for bank and shoreline armour, canal and bayou edges, and slope protection. It is the material for ground that is actively being cut away.
Railroad Ballast is the coarse angular option for track beds, heavy equipment pads and very wet ground where a large open stone is wanted. The open structure lets water move through it.
#4 Crushed Stone is roughly 1 1/2 inch clean stone. It suits heavy drainage, erosion work and stabilising very wet ground.
Drain Rock is clean washed stone with the fines taken out. It goes in French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs.
On ground with a water table this close to the surface, the drainage layer is the part that has to work.
Then the base and surface sizes. 610 Limestone is the compacted layer under drives, parking pads, shed pads and flatwork.
Road Base is recycled Portland cement concrete crushed and screened with the fines left in, and Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
#57 Limestone is the clean open graded size at about 3/4 inch with no fines. It is the usual choice for drainage and concrete work, and it surfaces a drive.

A dump truck then tips the load on your site.
Each product page has a calculator if you want to size the load before you order. Aimwell sits in Catahoula Parish, and delivery covers the parish, including Jonesville, Sicily Island, Harrisonburg and Enterprise.
Have the drop spot clear and reachable before the truck arrives. The load comes off in one pile, so the ground under it should be firm enough to hold it.
Work runs year round here. Heavy rain and saturated clay, not cold, are what stop a compaction pass, so timing a delivery around a wet stretch matters more than the calendar.
Across the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains, the land is flat and the clay will not take water. The natural levee ridges are the only ground that drains by itself, and the low ground between them holds rain until it is ditched or pumped away.
That is why a base course and a drainage layer are two separate jobs. 610 limestone compacts into a base.
Clean stone like #67 Stone or #8 Crushed Stone lets water pass instead.
Erosion follows the same pattern: bank cutting on the channels, sheet flow across bare clay after a hard rain, and scour in ditches and canals. Riprap and #4 Crushed Stone are the angular sizes for that work.
For grade raising, Select Fill compacts rather than settling, so it goes under a base course. River silt is the Louisiana term for fine alluvial fill dug from the river bottoms and listed beside fill dirt and spillway dirt.
Use clean stone with the fines taken out, because fines hold water instead of passing it. Drain Rock is the washed option for French drains, perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs.
#57 Limestone and #67 Stone are the open graded sizes for general drainage and trench work. For heavy drainage or a swale, #4 Crushed Stone gives you a larger open void.
Have the drop spot cleared and firm enough to carry a loaded truck, and make sure the route in is reachable. The driver tips the load in one pile, so pick a spot where that pile can sit without blocking anything you need.

We would rather move a delivery than tear up your ground. If the site is too wet for the truck on the day, we will call you and rebook. Tell us in advance about any part of the approach that does not drain and we will plan around it.
