Open the calculatorIf you need gravel and aggregate delivery in Transylvania, LA, Louisiana Rock Supply brings bulk material to your site. The local base here is 610 limestone, the crushed limestone base that hardens as it is worked.
Transylvania sits in East Carroll Parish, on ground laid down by the rivers. Paths and walkways are where the fines and screenings earn their place.
Across the Mississippi and Red River alluvial plains, the ground is recent alluvium: silty clay and clay loam, deep and heavy. Sandier natural levee ridges run along the old channels, and backswamp clay fills the low ground between them.
A thin base shows its weakness fast on that clay. The material punches through the soft surface instead of bridging it, and the path ruts the first wet week.
The water table sits close to the surface across this part of the state. Clay will not take water, so rain stands until it is ditched or pumped away.
That is why the drainage layer matters more than the surface layer on a path or a drive. Clean stone with the fines washed out gives water somewhere to go.
Erosion here comes from river and bayou bank cutting, from sheet flow across bare clay after a hard rain, and from ditch and canal scour. Bare ground sheds water fast.
Work runs year round in this part of Louisiana. What stops a compaction pass is heavy rain and saturated clay, not cold.
Paths and walkways are a fines job. Stone screenings, the crusher fines that pass the finest screen, pack into a firm surface underfoot and bed pavers at the same time.
For a walkway surface, walkway gravel is a finer gravel that packs underfoot. It suits garden paths and the run from a gate to a door.
Where a path meets a bed, Natural Pea Gravel gives you rounded pea sized stone. It works for paths, dog runs, play areas and pipe bedding.
For joints and thin bedding layers, #89 crushed stone is the fine clean size. Stone screenings do the same job as a packing top for a path.
Under any of it, 610 limestone is the compacted layer. The Louisiana base size runs from stone dust up to about two inches, and the fines bind it.
610 Limestone also goes under drives, parking pads and shed pads.
Crushed concrete is a base layer of recycled Portland cement concrete, crushed and screened with the fines left in. Louisiana permits it as a Class II base course material.
Where water has to move, you want clean open graded stone. Drain rock is washed stone with the fines taken out, for French drains, foundation perimeter drains, drywells and downspout runs.
You order online, choose a quantity by the ton or by the yard, and pick a delivery date at checkout. A dump truck then tips the load on your site in one pile.
Each product page has a calculator to help you size the load before you order. It is worth using on a path, where the wrong quantity leaves you short of the run.
Delivery covers Transylvania and the rest of East Carroll Parish, including Lake Providence and Sondheimer. If your site is on a levee ridge or back off a parish road, the drop point is worth thinking about before the truck arrives.
Screenings, walkway gravel and 610 limestone all come by the ton or the yard, and the calculator on each product page sizes the load. Order online, pick your delivery date, and Louisiana Rock Supply tips it on site in Transylvania.
What buyers ask us before they order.
Have the drop point clear and reachable, with nothing overhead that the raised bed would catch. A dump truck tips the load in one pile, so pick a spot that leaves you room to work the material from there.
On this ground, 610 limestone is the base: stone dust up to about two inches, with the fines binding it. Bed the pavers on stone screenings or mason sand above that, and let clean stone handle any water that has to move.
We would rather move a delivery than tear up your ground. If the site is too wet for the truck on the day, we will call you and rebook. Tell us in advance about any part of the approach that does not drain and we will plan around it.
